Let's just call them creators and entertainers. The ones that are influencing do not follow mindless trends for views or promote overconsumption. They speak up when needed. As audience we need to make sure who we are looking up to.

The reason these influences do not speak out is because one, they get their accounts banned/bank accounts freeze and independent journalists straight up get killed if they expose the truth. Two these blind religious citizens of India would start hating and abusing them for speaking out. These are no reasons to be quiet or apolitical tho, my friend told me nobody is ‘apolitical’ and it hit me because your silence means complicity and it affects you and a billion other people. I think the more uncomfortable question here is, do we actually want influencers to be brave, or do we just want them to feel good to follow? Because the moment someone takes a real stand, they become polarising, and audiences punish that quickly. So creators learn early that clarity costs them more than vagueness ever will. I'm not one to defend any online personalities but I think Gautami and Abhyudaya do a significant bit to educate their audience in a unique way. The message is delivered pretty well.
I think we should consciously choose who we make us our influencers because after all, that's a kind of voting in itself. A lot of influencers say one thing to gain audience and the next second pretend like nothing happened and choose to deliberately stay silent when things like this take place. If you were so strong in your morals and values, why not back it up when they get threatened?
and yes I agree, we do deserve people who mean what they say, we don't deserve mediocrity, and more so not people who fill their pockets by their safe takes on sensitive issues and then get pin drop silent when the responsibility falls on them.
Well written, and honestly, that's the reason why all of them are called content creators and not influencers, because these guys ain't influencing anything or anyone. I get their point; I understand where they are coming from, so that's why I don't really judge them harshly. It's just the way the game is, and that's the game they are playing, and I understand it, but of course understanding doesn't mean it's right. Again, it's their moral compass, so who are we to judge?
Nevertheless, great article. Also reminded me of the recent case where the government was shutting every single account which was exposing Modi and health minister. Yeah, that's funny, because the government is literally banning the accounts and registering FIR on people who are speaking about it, which is insane. Now just think, that is happening with normal people. What about influencers? They have more at stake, so I understand, but again understanding doesn't mean shit. Would love to see someone actually daring enough to speak about it on main stage
yes, but don't they atleast play a lil responsibility, like if we are brave enough to choose them and put them at pedestals, don't they carry a certain weight of the preachings of people who choose them, everyday and anyday. But then again, views are subjective. But DEFIENTELY we do need some bold ppl up there
They are all just spammers in a certain way, only promoting brands with a fake story and following the trend for views. I dont find anything funny nowadays in these influencers reels or videos. They just spitting dumb shit and following trends for the sake of views and never influencing the youth in any form. There are real influencers too, but most of them do not even know the meaning of influencer.
i hate the term influencer so much. At best they're content creators and at worst digital living advertising machines.
i wish people were less parasocial about them and the only reason the influencers' "community" with audience is to boost their brand and earn more while they're hot on the market before their shelf life expires.
